Every training plan Bay K9 builds starts in the same place: your dog’s senses. Dogs don’t experience a room, a walk, or a stranger at the door the way you do. Their world is built primarily on scent, sound, and subtle visual movement — and a huge share of the behavior owners label as “stubborn,” “reactive,” or “distracted” is actually a dog responding, quite logically, to sensory information their human never noticed. Before we correct a behavior, we ask a different question first: what is this dog’s nose, ears, or eyes picking up right now that I’m missing?
Commands like sit, stay, and heel only work reliably once a dog can actually process what’s being asked — and a dog whose senses are overloaded can’t. A dog fixated on a scent trail across the yard, or startled by a sound at a frequency you can’t hear, isn’t ignoring you; their nervous system is prioritizing the input that feels most urgent. Bay K9 trains owners to recognize these sensory triggers before reaching for a correction, because addressing the trigger is almost always faster and more lasting than repeating a cue louder.
During your free consultation, we watch what your dog notices before we watch what your dog does. That observation shapes every session that follows — including which training program fits best, whether it’s behavior training, puppy coaching, or work with a more reactive dog.
